My first full-time job in Austria was as an assistant in an English immersion kindergarten. A lot has changed since then. I’ve become a freelance writer and teacher, I’ve moved out of Vienna to the Salzkammergut, and I have 2 young children of my own.
I still love nothing more than teaching English to preschoolers!
Salzkammergut English provides kindergarten English courses as one-off sessions and in 10 – 12 week blocks. I’m based in Bad Ischl but can travel to towns across the region.

I believe that all of us should be jealous of how easy it is for children to learn a new language – That’s why I work with children from the age of 2.5.
I believe that the best way to learn is to use your whole body and solve problems in your new language, preferably while having fun with your friends – That’s why we don’t sit still, use all the space we have, and learn English together as we move, play, sing and shout!
I believe that English classes should be interactive and relevant – That’s why each week is different, and why we look at everything from the changing seasons to the foods we like to eat.
Each class is approximately 40 minutes long, though this can be tailored to the daily routine in your kindergarten. Likewise, classes can be adapted to suit a ‘circle time’, gym, or even garden setting.
Each week, we’ll start with familiar exercises and songs. Once everyone is warmed up, we’ll move on to our ‘topic’ for the week. Some examples of topics include:
- Numbers and Counting
- The seasons
- Plants and Animals
- Vehicles and Emergency Services
- Homes and Families
- On the Farm
- Heads Shoulders Knees and Toes.
We’ll walk through each new topic together, sometimes reading stories, sometimes singing songs, and sometimes playing games. In every session, the children will use their imaginations and think about their own experiences and prior knowledge of the topic. Each week, their confidence in English will grow.
At the end of the class, we’ll repeat what we’ve learned so that we can be proud of our new knowledge, and we’ll sing some calming goodbye songs to get the children ready for the rest of their day.
